Hi, I’m Vic. Welcome to my “working dog blog”. I hope we can become “fur”ever friends. Let me tell you about me. I am a registered Border Collie and I was born on March 12th, 2010 in Alabama. I had three brothers and three sisters. And my parent’s names were Jim and Pat. No, really, that’s true. We all have three letter names. One of my sisters and I were sent to a great place called Big Bend Farm in Millboro, VA. We met lots of new friends. Every day all of my friends, my sister and I went to school. There was so much to learn! The hardest class was vocabulary. My teacher Barb talked to us all the time and we had to do exactly what she said. There were words like sit, stay and come. Then she started putting words together. Whew! Barb told me to swim, swim and that’ll do. And just when I thought she couldn’t talk anymore – she did! Now teacher yelled come by and away to me. What? It was really hard, but so much fun to learn with my friends.
Barb always told me how good I was doing. Well, all except for one thing – I love to have my belly rubbed. So I would run up to my teacher after doing what she wanted and lay down and show her my belly so I could get a good old-fashioned belly rub. Apparently there’s one problem with that – when you are a working dog for sheep herding you can’t do that. Judges don’t like that at all. Grrr! My teacher didn’t give up on me though. She introduced me to a new job – goose chasing. Wow! Now that is the best job ever!! I had a blast.
In February of 2012, my new parents from Pond Wiser came to visit at Big Bend Farm. Me and a couple of my best buds got to show off a little for them. Teacher took us to the pond and started giving us all kinds of instructions. I did my very best for our visitors. When we got back to our house, my visitors talked awhile to my teacher. Then they left. I didn’t know what was going on. But a few weeks later the man visitor (aka Mr. Pondwiser) came back and put me in his truck. We drove a long time to my new home in Ohio.
And that, my friends, is how it all began. I hope you will tag along for many goose chasing adventures.
