Border Collie

Working with our Border Collie “Agent Vic” is the key component in our strategy to keep unwanted geese and their highly toxic waste off your property. It is critical that Vic be 100% obedient with no tendencies to physically touch or harm the geese since this would violate the Federal Migratory Bird Act of 1918. Border Collies like our beloved Vic are a great fit to humanely remove geese because they have been bred for three hundred years to manage or herd livestock.

Border Collies like Vic are athletic, obedient, and easy to train. In this work, the dog must be sensitive to the geese but also to direction from his handler. Because of their high intelligence and eagerness to please, these dogs can understand and respond to numerous whistles and commands. In a video that we will soon be publishing you will clearly see how Vic “hops” to it as the good DR Ray directs his every move against the toxic goose population at a local pond here in Northeast Ohio.

Geese see Vic as a predator and will flee the area (they told me this during questioning), especially as our border patrol agent stalks and chases them. It is important that Vic and the good DR disrupt the geese enough from their daily routine until they have completely left your property and not just moved from the grassy areas to any ponds or water on your property. That is why we employ the use of a boat to continue the pursuit of geese into bodies of water. We even see geese that can’t fly trying to hide under the water while Vic is in the area.

Managing geese requires Vic to do his job at a distance from his handler as many of the properties we service are in excess of 2 acres. Our Vic has a well-tested and proven obedience track record. Vic is successfully dispersing geese and keeping them from returning to our client’s properties here in Ohio.

Surrounded by businesses and busy streets, you would never expect to have a goose infestation, but that’s just what we did have. My business sits in the middle of the BeldenVillage area of Canton,Ohio and was home to countless Canadian geese. Our lawn was unsightly and the parking lot impassable without getting your shoes covered in goose droppings. Our clients and mostly our employees were frustrated. So I decided to contact Pond Wiser about their “Border Patrol”.

Their “Border Patrol” is a two year old Border collie named Vic that is specially trained for goose control and control he did. “Our” geese had decidedOhiowas fine for them over the winter and didn’t need to leave the area. Pond Wiser began their goose chasing service in January. By spring, the geese were gone and so was their nesting. Spring rains cleared our lawn and parking area of the goose droppings that had been left behind.

We were free and clear of Canadian geese and would highly recommend this service to other area businesses who are dealing with the same dilemma. The dog is directed at all times, never allowed to run wild, and doesn’t harm the geese. Vic rarely even barks.

If you have tried everything else, but are still dealing with Canadian geese on your property, whether it’s a home or office, give Pond Wiser a call. I highly recommend this service and can attest it works.

We have battled with a Canadian goose infestation for numerous years. We followed several guidelines experts recommended, such as keeping the weeds in the pond controlled and installing strobe lights, but our yard was overrun with geese anyway. Our grandchildren couldn’t play in the yard and it was unsightly when guests drove up our driveway and had to walk across the sidewalk where the geese left their droppings.

We had heard of the use of dogs in controlling geese but never really gave it much consideration. Besides, we have a dog that is on the property and he didn’t seem to make a difference to the geese.

Then in February 2012, Pond Wiser contacted us and explained how a specially trained Border Collie can control the goose population and they were proud to be the leaders in bringing this service to Stark County. The concept of a highly skilled dog being able to deter the geese from nesting on our property was intriguing and we gave permission for them to begin the necessary visits. Pond Wiser began coming to our pond two times a day, six days a week, the end of February 2012. When they walked onto our property, there were literally hundreds of geese. Less than two months later, there are times throughout the day that we do not have even one goose on our property. We have not seen any nesting yet either and hope that we will not have any goslings in the future. We couldn’t be happier with the results of “goose chasing”.

Our concern that getting rid of the geese would also result in ducks leaving as well was unfounded. The ducks are staying and aren’t bothered by Agent Vic’s presence.

Pond Wiser’s Agent Vic is under control all the time and never tries to harm the geese. The results have been astounding in a short period of time and I would highly recommend others try out the services of this specially trained Border Collie if they are frustrated with geese taking over their property.
